We often hear dancers wish everyone would rotate partners or that folks would dance more and talk less or that some folks would not request line dances or mixers, etc. The obvious but forgotten truth is that everyone is so different. Therefore, everyone’s motivation for dancing and what they enjoy at a dance also is different: for some couples, a dance is a date-night; for some it is a night out to catch up with friends; for some it is a chance to exercise and burn up as many calories as they can; for some it is a time to play but pace themselves to enjoy the max amount of fun without overdoing; for some it’s a fun chance to practice; for some it is a chance to explore a new skill without feeling totally gawky and robotic. So this is just a reminder to stretch our own perspective to consider that others may differ from us but we all share a common love and enjoyment for music and dancing.
